A Nursing Career and Having CF

I am a nurse.  I am a good nurse, and I love my job.  I also have CF.  Working as a nurse who has CF is like having two full time jobs.  It is challenging to find the time before I leave for work every morning to make sure I do my physiotherapy and all the inhaled treatments I need to do.  I work an 8-9 hour day, commute an hour and a half home, do more physio, and then get myself ready to do it all again the next day.  Some days (actually most days) I wish I didn't have CF to deal with, so I could go about my day like everyone else.  But, having to live and manage a chronic condition helps me to better do my job.  I can understand what it is like to be a patient.  I think it makes me more empathetic having been on the patient side, as well as the professional side.  I worked hard to get my degree and did it all with the daily challenges of living with CF.  Becoming a nurse and being successful at my job has been one of the proudest accomplishments I have achieved.
